TODAY I STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH TEACHERS

TODAY I STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH TEACHERS IN THEIR FIGHT TO RETURN TO SCHOOL SAFELY. YOUR CHILD’S RUNNY NOSE WILL BE YOU RUNNING TO THE HOSPITAL!

My parents were educators. My parents stressed school, education, learning, and knowledge. They demanded an inquisitive spirit, a belief in facts & science, a respect for those that believed in whatever God they chose, a respect for those that loved whomever they chose, demanded a respect for our elders and those that knew more than I did, ever since the day I was born. If you don’t know, I’m proudly from a college town. I was actually born in Bellefonte, PA. a town a few miles outside of State College, PA because State College didn't have a hospital that my mom could go to at that time. But Happy Valley, as it is known, is the home of Penn State. And I bleed Blue & White to this day! My father was a professor there. He was the founder of PSU’s “Upward Bound”, which was a program that brought under-privileged black high-school kids to campus to show them that a college dream was obtainable. So I grew up in a college town, in a family of educators, believing that learning never stopped. And as all my parent’s friends were accomplished academicians, those educators were to be valued and I was exposed to brilliance early in my life. (Confession: I had to look up a spelling because I’m not an accademicshian). So as a kid, education was ingrained in me ever since Dr. Rohrbeck smacked me on my butt to get me to start crying and screaming to make sure there was air in my lungs. And I haven't stopped since. And have no plans to stop anytime soon. So I understand and appreciate the job of the teacher.

(Side Bar: My sister and brother-in-law are teachers today and they didn’t pay me a dime to say all this stuff about teachers. But if a brother could get a gift card to Bed Bath & Beyond I won’t turn it down. My current non-stick pans stick!). I appreciate the job of the teacher/educator. Because in many respects they are not only those who/whom (teachers take a red pen to this) teach us, teachers are also our babysitters, psychologists, de facto parents, friends, and cheerleaders. All the things that since you’ve been on lockdown, you now realize you underpaid them for. They were the heroes and sheroes that you never really gave credit to because you thought they’d always be there, and our society never gave them the money they deserved, because they believed they could get away with underpaying them. Gotta love the American psyche. But that shit’s gotta and gonna change!

Today we have to recognize our teachers! For me: Foos, Kerrick, DeLaurentis, Michelsen, Cohen, Wick, Linnell, Simon, those are teachers, among many others, that positively affected my life. When you send your child to school there is a term called “In Loco Parentis” that refers to “a relationship in which a person puts himself or herself in the situation of a parent by assuming and discharging the obligations of a parent to a child”. So that’s what you’re entering into when you send your child to school. How much would you be willing to spend for your ADT home security system for your home to protect your child? How much military spending will you sign off on to stop foreign invaders from coming in to kill your child? But you’re willing to send them back into classrooms where you know they’re going to get sick!? Get prepared to get the hell sued out of you. Oh, that means your money. Got your attention yet?

Maybe after reading this you now realize how much the teachers do and how amazing they helped make your lives. How much stress and relief they took off of your stingy ass. As the government clamors to send your kids back to school, maybe they should also clamor to pay teachers a shitload more than they used to. Why can’t you also clamor to pay for the medical care for grand-parents living in their multi-generational homes that might get sick? Why don’t you clamor to have your property taxes raised because that's how a number of these schools are funded. Hey geniuses, as you evict people and move them into more crowded spaces, the coronavirus will spread faster.

WHY DON’T ALL YOU FUCKING BANKS WHO WERE BAILED OUT DURING THE FINANCIAL CRISIS FORGIVE THE LOANS OF WORKING AMERICANS?

You should clamor to have the federal government make sure that people pay their taxes so that these amazing human beings can be compensated. Fuck the CEOs, you need to pay the PTA! And as I type this, I’m not sure if the President’s own Child’s Baron’s school will NOT be opening back up completely? Hypocrisy at all? And as an adult who doesn't have kids, I'd be happy to pay more in property taxes NOW to make sure that your little idiots, I mean your little darlings that you don't discipline near enough, grow up to be young adults who look at their teachers and understand that they wouldn't be half as far along in their lives had it not been for their teachers. But we need you and them alive to have that conversation.
